Interim Guidance for Skilled Nursing Facilities COVID-19

The Pennsylvania Department of Health issued a 12 page document called "Interim Guidance for Skilled Nursing Facilities During COVID-19." This document also contains reopening guidance that occurs in a 3 step process. This starts on Section 6 of the document. Please note that we are also following CMS and CDC relevant guidelines.

A Message from Neshaminy Manor

We learned this week that a staff member tested positive late last week. We also received a revision to the Department of Health's "Interim Guidance for Skilled Nursing Facilities COVID-19."  The revision for Reopening of Skilled Nursing Facilities identifies that if a staff member tests positive then the facility regresses back to the beginning of Step 1 reopening. So today, Neshaminy Manor is in the first week of the two week testing requirement for testing staff and residents, who were previously negative.

Our turnaround time for getting test results back has improved. Today, we have approximately 7 tests outstanding since 7/23/2020.  Except for these 7 tests from last week, all of the other test results are back. Our total testing for staff and residents is approximately 600 weekly.

Window Visitation:

The response to the Window Visitation has been great. For this weekend, we are adding A-2 on Saturday and C-2 on Sunday, from 10:00am to 12:00pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm. For next weekend, our plan is to add A-0 and A-1, one Unit per day. Please check the Sign Up Genius for the dates and times. As of this writing, C-1 has less residents so we will stay with the Tuesday window visitation. It's our plan to keep the weekends Window Visitation going as long as we are in the Step 1 reopening phase.

  • Number of confirmed in-house resident positive cases of Covid-19: 111
  • Patients recovered: 111
  • Staff testing positive: 70 of which all 69 have recovered. One (1) staff member is currently being followed by the Health Department
  • To date we are sad to report that 49 residents testing positive for Covid-19 have died. That number is not included in the above totals.
  • There are zero (0) staff and/or residents exhibiting signs/symptoms of respiratory issues in the past 72 hours.
  • Neshaminy Manor is continuing to conduct additional weekly testing of negative residents per the Department of Health Guidance.

Please know that we are doing everything we can to limit the spread of Covid-19 within our facility by:

  1. Maintaining restriction of visitors and no communal dining nor activities;
  2. Monitoring all employees and healthcare personnel for symptoms of respiratory illness every day prior to starting their shift;
  3. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g., wearing masks, face shields, eye protection, gowns, gloves)
  4. Monitoring for respiratory symptoms and illness in our residents every day.
  5. Implementing enhanced cleaning schedules.
  6. Developed a cohorting plan of residents according to CDC recommendations in collaboration with the Bucks Count Health Department.
  7. In order to keep everyone safe and healthy, we have been instructed to make some room changes to allow us to have a designated unit for residents who test positive for Covid-19. Families will be notified if this will affect loved ones.

Neshaminy Manor continues to take aggressive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, including taking temperatures and monitoring for symptoms three times per day; requiring staff to wear protective items including masks, face shields, eyewear, gowns and gloves; performing enhanced cleaning; and reviewing all new federal guidelines pertaining to this constantly changing pandemic.

Effective 03/10/20, Neshaminy Manor is closed to all visitors due to the COVID-19 virus. Visitors will be permitted on an approved individual basis for end of life. Thank you for your understanding.

The Bucks County Board of Commissioners officially opened this "State of the Art" Long Term Care Nursing Home April 30, 2000.
